repertoire?
Does anyone know of any repertoire suitable for an oud soloist and a conventional Western string ensemble (eg string quartet)? All ideas welcome!

Not sure what you're asking for exactly, but a string quartet should be able to play any Arabic repertoire, if they can play the quarter-tones, and
many of the pieces in non-quarter-tone maqamat if they can't.
If you're asking about pieces arranged specifically for oud + string quartet, there is Simon Shaheen's Fantasie for oud and string quartet and his
arr. of Longa Riad for oud + string quartet (though a rec. of that is not commercially available). Rabih Abou Khalil did an album (Arabian Waltz) all
arr. for oud + string quartet, as well as an album (Yara) for oud + string trio + percussion.

Hi Brian
Is there any recording of the longa riyad oud + string quartet recording available?
I can give you a recording in Lincoln Center of Simon playing it with Miya Beiser on cello in return
Regards
Victor
