Thomann Ouds?
Hi all,
Does anyone have any experience with the Ouds stocked on http://www.thomann.de?
They sell a brand called Saz and also their own.
I'm looking to buy my first Arabic Oud new or second hand in the UK.
Thomann is appealing as there is no import tax compared to arabinstruments and my budget is only €350. I'm a classical guitarist and just want
something for fun.
These are two I have in mind:

https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_arabian_oud_de_luxe.htm
All advice or alternative choices welcome!
Regards

Don't even consider it, they are rubbish and have zero tone. I can help you find something for around £300 if interested, i am in the UK. As long as
you don't mind a second hand instrument. Whereabouts are you based ?

Fair enough! Thanks, I'd really appreciate that. I don't mind having a second hand one at all.
I'm based in Leicestershire. Most of the 2nd hand ones I've seen are in London but if people can vouch for a certain Oud, I am willing to buy without
trying.

Hey there,
I just want to give a reply on the first question.

I have a Thomann turkish style Oud in my hands from time to time. It was easily available and not too expancive for an institution that works with
refugees.
Pros
It is quite robust
easily playable
good to get in tune.
very light
Cons
It is not very loud
the rosett is made of paper
the back seems to be one part with a covered whit a photo paper that looks like ribs
It is very cheap made but surely playable and for my opinion, sufficient to have a nice musical suituation.
On Stage it would mind if it could satisfy all my requirements.

Ugh .... a cheap oud is a nasty thing .... its like playing on a plank with strings. It's not worth the effort, or the money. Better to buy used and
higher quality, with a few playing marks, and get TONE.
