Never ship an oud in a hard case?
I had always assumed a hard case essential for shipping but a local post delivery worker said 'never'. He said it's the hard cases which damage the
instruments in transit as they form a too solid surround. He said plenty of polystyrene snow and thick bubble wrap are superior next to instrument
allowing it to float in this stuff within a sturdy cardboard box. I found this link which kind of backs up his advice. Interesting. Any thoughts

Shipping an instrument is like shipping a mirror. The instrument should be suspended in packing material with no part of the instrument or mirror
touching the inner walls of the shipping box. An instrument within a hard case may be shipped the same way, so long as the oud does not move within
the hard case. It needs to be secured by soft material The outer walls of the case give the instrument more protection by absorbing any shock that
the packing material and outer box did not absorb. But shipping within a hard case as the only protection (no box) is not a good idea. A hard case
within a box with packing material between the inner walls of the box and the outer walls of the case is a very good idea.
