Mansur Nariman Oud books (request)
Hi, I wanted to ask if somebody has the Oud books from Mansur Nariman, namely "Barbat (Oud) Method" and "42 Pieces for Oud", in digital format for
sharing. I'm in the process of getting the physical books but would take a lot of time to have them in my hands and I want to start with them since
started studying the Persian tradition.
Thanks in advance!

I found a link to an image, an on-line bookstore based in Iran: http://shop.citymusic.ir/index.php?route=product/product&produc... (42 Pieces...) Also found this: https://orientalinstruments.com/strings/oud-barbat/other-accessories... Maybe they will have it again?

Thanks for searching John, but I already know where to get the print copy. I will just take a lot of time to arrive home. I wanted to know if somebody
had a digital copy.

I would highly recommend the book, because the CD which is with it is really helpful. Even if it takes longer, it's worth it.
If you like to have something in advance... I think I have one of the nicest pieces as jpg or something, but would need to search for it.

What's the usual tuning for a Persian barbat?

Five course instruments are usually tuned G A D G C or sometimes F A D G C, six course instruments add a C or D. Since your using lots of open
strings, the tuning is very important and depending on the dastgah.
Who wants the piece can write a PM with their email address.

Hi bugaga, thanks, I already have a sample image. It seems a good book although having the titles of pieces in Farsi is a difficulty. I'll have the
book in a couple months but I'm still looking for the digital copy.
Let me guys know if you happen to find something by chance.

Looks like you can buy the pdf here, not sure because I didn't take the time to read it properly. http://shiraz-beethoven.ir/product.php?category=book&product_id...

Oh, yes. That's true. I've been in that shop two months ago, but forgot about this possibility. You can buy all this stuff as PDF, too.
The problem would be the payment. Transactions to Iran are a pain in the ass, if possible at all. I don't know if they have found a solution.

Hello I found this link with records from Mansur Nariman:
http://player.iranseda.ir/music-player/?VALID=TRUE&g=31692&...
A question, on a barbat score, would you read the symbol V as a down or an upstroke ? I think to remember on iranian scores this symbol can be of
reverse meaning depending if you play on a setar or a tar. Maybe the same on the barbat ?
I think on barbat it is an upstroke, but can you confirm ?

Yes, the symbol V above a note indicates an upstroke. It can be found also in Arabic oud methods. Turkish notations typically use an up and down arrow
to indicate the upstroke and downstroke, a system that leaves no room for confusion.

majnuunNavid, bugaga: I cannot make sense of anything in that website since I don't read farsi
Is it possible to buy it there?
Still looking for this one. I cannot buy the physical book yet (need to solve an issue with local customs).

He has a large book on Radif and a different book of pieces than the 42 piece book. You can find his complete radif on Tidal at the moment Feb 2023,
as well as another album with persuasions. There is a set of 2 CDs of old pieces many of which are in the books which is nice to learn.
I've been trying to get the Radif book or digital copies of the others also. Many of the current Oud / Barbat players studied under him.
