Scores for Anouar Brahem - The Astounding Eyes of Rita?
Hello!
I am looking for scores to one of my absolutely favourit melodies: Anouar Brahem - The Astounding Eyes of Rita. But I have so far found nothing. Does
anyone of you have scores of it?
If there are not scores existing, is anyone interested in a co-funding of a full transcription? When the song is transcribed, all who has co-funded it
will get the transcription. The song is quite long, about 9 minutes, so the fee for transcribing it would be quite high. I cannot transcribe myself,
so I need to find a transcriber.
Kind regards,
Viktor

The actual tune for this is really only about 4 minutes, the intro is about a minute and then there are around 3 minutes of music plus some repeats
and improvisation. Assuming you didn't need a transcription of the improvisations, it wouldn't be that big of a job to transcribe.
Computer software can be helpful I guess if your ears have difficulty identifying pitches, but a bigger challenge in transcription often is properly
recognizing rhythms and notating them correctly, which is not really helped by a program like melodyne.
Additionally, with the oud and Arabic music, one typically notates the music in a more simple way and then elaborates with one's own interpretation.
Taking an actual performance and producing the sheet music is a skill that takes some experience, since it's not just writing down exactly what was
played. Brahem here plays a lot of little additions that wouldn't normally be in the written sheet music.

I sat down today and transcribed the whole thing. Really cool piece, especially towards the end where they play multiple melodies simultaneously.
It's not that hard, the whole thing fits just from the low F/G string to the high c' string so you can play it easily in any standard oud tuning.
If/when I get a chance to put into the computer I'll be happy to share it. But try to learn it by ear! It's pretty accessible.

This is wonderful, Brian! Thank you for putting in the time to transcribe it.
I came across some of your transcriptions of Brahem's other songs that you generously shared in the past. I'd be delighted to buy a copy of these
transcriptions (old and new) if you decide to put them on your website.
Cheers,
Amir

Hi guys, I put up the transcription here:
https://brianprunka.com/words/blog/anouar-brahem-the-astounding-eyes...
For this one, I did more of a full transcription. Normally, I would do a simpler, edited version in a 'lead sheet' style, but there are some
interesting things about the way that this is played that I thought a full score would be helpful. Unfortunately it means it's nine pages! But it was
the best way to get the full composition.
Amir, thanks for the offer but I am generally uncomfortable selling transcriptions of other people's compositions. Even though it's my work, it's not
really appropriate to sell without the permission of the composer in my opinion. So I am just providing it for educational purposes, hopefully Anouar
Brahem does not object.
Viktor, thanks for the offer! I am very particular about my work, so if I'm going to transcribe or write something I want to make sure it is done
exactly the way I want it. So I appreciate you offering to help, I just prefer to do it myself.

Thank you so very much, Brian!
I have been longing so long for this tune and would not even dared to ask for the full transcription! (I must admit, that I am as partcular in my own
work as you are, and also hesitate to let someone else do it ;-)
Looking forward to dive into the full score!
Kind regards,
Viktor
