Music and Oud Retreat
I have a suggestion to all the dear members of this forum.
Is it OK if we start a music retreat somewhere in the US where we could get-together somewhere for a week to exchange ideas and maybe invite a oud
guru to run an educational workshop or a one week course?
If successful, we can turn it into an annual event.
We can pick the meeting place and time by vote.

That's a great idea. When I am in Greece I will ask if any of the oud players at the seminars or in Greece would want to come and do something like
that here.

Terrific idea! I'm in California, but I'd travel to most places short of the antarctic to meet everybody and exchange oud music and ideas.

Here is a music retreat scheduled for Agust. I contacted Dr. Scott Marcus at USCB
http://www.catalog.ucsb.edu/2002cat/profiles/marcus.htm
Dr. Marcus recommended it. I will do my best to go there.

Oud Retreat - It Happens at The Arabic Music Retreat
The Arabic Music Retreat (August 13-20, 2005) always attracts a large group of oudists. Last year there were around 25 oud students. The faculty is
led by Simon Shaheen and includes A. Jihad Racy, Charbel Rouhana, Bassam Saba, Al Gardner, and William Shaheen. Oudmaker Najib Shaheen gives a
workshop on oud repair and maintenance. Sometimes it seems as if the Retreat is really Oud City. It's probably the only place on earth where you might
even see an 'Oud Wave' in an orchestra rehearsal.
If you want to connect with other oud players, consider the Retreat, held at Mount Holyoke College in western Massachusetts.
