Going to Izmir (Smyrna) in August

Hi guys,

I'm planning on going to Izmir this August for a day, and was wondering if anyone has advice/directions for oud shops in the area. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Mavrothis,

Ejder Gulec has his music shop in Izmir. He is most famous for his kanuns, which are considered to be among the very best, but when I visited his shop a few years ago he also had ouds for sale that he had made. His work is first rate.

His shop is in an indoor market (kapali carsi) in the Konak district, on Anafartalar Caddesi, Veysel Cikmazi no. 35. The phone number I have for him, which may have changed, is 425 3754.

Have a safe trip.

Thanks so much guys! Al-Halabi, I appreciate the information, I've heard of his instruments and that they are very nice. Thanks for the nice wishes as well. :) Niko, whenever you can I'd appreciate the addresses of those makers.

Thanks again!

Isn't Yucel located in Izmir? He's made some great instruments, but I have no idea how to contact him or where he might be located.
