Tarraza l-Rayhanu
I was fooling around with some drum loops . . . and trying to improvise over samai thaqil.
after the taqsim, I play the muwashshah "Tarraza l-Rayhanu" and then improvise for a while . . . the recording came out kind of boomy. i need to EQ
it, i guess.

Wow.. A lot of soul in that taqasim Brian. And the high bass sort of adds to to the 6arab in my verry modest opinion. I love your risha technique. I
would like to be has precise when I attack the strings. At the same time not get the scratchy sound when the risha strkes the strings. What kind of
mic do you use to record?

Man Brian,
Have u had any CDs made? Your playing is really awesome. I loved this recording. However, the percussionist adnan ( I was a precussionist for a
while) felt like the darbuka and ur playing didn't lock at a few places. Especially when the darbuka goes in to 16th notes (or whatever time they're
in). Maybe cutting the volume down a little on the percussion will fix that. But I loved the playing, so much 6arab as Samir said. Also, do you have
the sheet music for that muwashah? I would love to learn if you could post it for us.

revaldo, you're absolutely right that i didn't always lock up with the percussion . . . i'd probably have to do a couple more takes to get one that i
was really solid on. maybe someday i'll be able to nail everything in one take. thanks for your comments about the tarab . . . that's really
everything, isn't it?

Samir, I'm using a MXL 991 condenser mic. it's really cheap, but i feel like it works well for oud, especially live. it's very directional, so it
doesn't pick up too much of the other instruments.
My concern with it is that I don't know what kind of life expectancy it has, since it was so cheap (it comes with another, bigger mic for $100)
MXL makes a slightly more expensive mic (the 993) that is probably better.

Hi Brian
Other than the MXL 991 condenser mic do you mind tell me what are other equipment you use to record the piece? How about the effect for the sound?
