best place to purchase a quality ud
Hello friends. I am an amature ud player. I own an ud but the quality of construction and sound just isnt there. I would love to purchase a quality
one but am having trouble finding anywhere to purchase from. Lark in the Morn. uds look cheap, ive seen some on ebay but i am not sure how good they
are...uds seem to look better in pictures than in real life. I am looking for a hand made ud by a decent maker with a great sound and looks.
Especially cedar made (surface) uds. Are there any makers in us or elsewhere that i can contact easily that any of you would recomend? Or have any
to sell. Thanks

Two good makers ,you won't go wrong gauranteed
Hi Najahud , There are two good makers .One is Al Aseel ouds(Maurice Farouk Shahata) and Nazih Ghadban .These makers have a real quality Ouds they
dont make anything cheap , You pay the price but you get a Oud for life .
http://www.mauriceouds.com
http://www.oudnazihghadban.com
Try these two makers and see what they have to offer , and contact them , Or you can contact Mike here at Mikes Forums and he can help you with
Alaseel(Maurice Shehata) Ouds .Thats where i got asll my Shehata ouds. His prices are very good , where many people can afford , So do Mr. Nazih
Ghadbans Ouds are good too.
Good Luck and avoid the Online ouds they are mostly tourist Ouds looks good but sounds so so ,One time good investment for many years ....Best regards

Hello friends, thank you for replying so quickly...i looked at the two links from Samir, the second one looks great and I have emailed the maker for
pricing information. The first site I tried though, http://www.mauriceouds.com, was in arabic and i am not able to read it. Is there a sister english site or anything that could help. Thanks
again.

There are many excellent oud makers.
You already know about Nazih Ghadban (Lebanon) and Mourice Shehata (Egypt). Both are excellent makers, but here are a few more for your
consideration:
Dincer Dalkilic (USA/Turkey)
Haluk Eraydin (Turkey)
Viken Najarian (USA)
Dimitris Rapakousios (Greece)
Cengiz Sarikus (Turkey)
Tasos Theodorakis (Greece)
Faruk Turunz (Turkey)
Saadettin Sandi (Turkey)
Website links to several of these can be found at:
http://www.oud.eclipse.co.uk/links.html and there are knowledgable forum members here who have first-hand experience with instruments by each of
these fine luthiers.
Mr Sandi's site is not listed there, but can be found at http://www.cankayamuzikevi.com
AFAIK, there are no Syrian luthiers who have a web site, but a seach on member "samir" will reveal the one and only Syrian oud maker who frequents
these forums.
Regards,
Greg

Eraydin ouds
Hello Najahad.
If you are looking for a quality Turkish oud at an affordable price, check out my good buddy Haluk Eraydin's cite. His site is http://www.eraydinsazevi.com.tr. Haluk makes great ouds starting from $139 and up to $1600. He can have the traditional oud pegs put on, or the
machine guitar tuners put on. Haluk can also install electric pickups at your request. I currently have an oud made by him. If you have more
questions, email me at wfspark@hotmail.com, or wfspark@netzero.com.
