Driss el-Maloumi

Hi

I just ordered a new CD by the Moroccan oud player Driss el-Maloumi entitled "Maroc: L'Amee Dansee (The Dancing Soul)". It's part of the "Musique du Monde" series from Buda Musique, who produced the Marc Loopuyt CDs, so hopefully it will lean more towards the traditional and include some detailed liner notes! You can read more about the CD here:

I saw Driss el-Maloumi perform in Greece a few years ago and he was fantastic. He had a neat trick of plucking the oud strings with his left hand while tapping out a rhythm on the body of the oud with his right hand - this kind of stole the show from Omar Bashir, who was performing after him!

Anwyay, I'll let you know more about the CD when I receive it, but in the meantime perhaps someone else could comment?

Best wishes

David

He's also got a CD listed on rashid.com called "The Enchanter Of The Oud" that looks like it might be good. It's also part of the same series.

Oh, hey, I just checked out your link and it looks like it might be the same CD! Same cover picture anyway.

Let us know what you think of it.
