New CDs to check out!
Hi
I'm not sure if everyone has seen my postings on the Oud Message Board, but I just wanted to let you all know about a few new CDs that I have
come across recently:
1. Asim al-Chalabi 'Monajat'
This is a brand new one from an Iraqi oud player based in Vienna, Austria. I would SERIOUSLY urge you to check this one out - I have been playing it
non-stop since I got it! It is available from http://www.maqam.com and you can find out more about Asim al-Chalabi from his website:
http://members.chello.at/asim.al-chalabi/Asimframes_en.htm
2. Rahim al-Haj 'Iraqi Music in a Time of War'
This is a live CD, again in the Iraqi style, featuring many of the tracks from Rahim's first CD 'The Second Baghdad'. More info at http://www.rahimalhaj.com
3. Samir Joubran 'Tamaas'
A beautiful CD from a young Palestinian oud player - available from http://www.rashid.com
4. Samir Tahar 'Magic Ud' and 'Dreams'
The Algerian master does it again - twice! I bought my copies from http://www.fnac.com (a French site) and you can also listen to them there.
5. Naseer Shamma 'Maqamat Zeryab'
This one hasn't arrived yet, but the clips I heard on his website (http://www.naseershamma.com) sounded great. Almost impossible to find this CD - I finally tracked it down at http://www.discoweb.co.uk
6. Farhan Sabbagh & Liu Fang 'Arabic and Chinese Music'
This one hasn't arrived yet either, but it is a combination of oud and pipa (Chinese lute). You can have a listen to it at
http://www.philmultic.com/liufang/cds/duo2.html
Sorry for the humungous posting, but I hope this info is of some use. All of these CDs have been/will be added to my website:

Best wishes
David

Thank you David. I have read many of your reviews of CDs on your site that helped me before buying various CDs. I recently bought the Joubran CD, and
the Farhan Sabbagh looks very interesting.
Take care,
Mike
