Oud Trivia

I found this excellent clip from a piece of music that has an oud player in it... my question to you is, do you know the piece of music and/or the player?

Good luck!

I am going to guess its Mohammad El Qassabji from an Om Kolthum song? (Even though I have a feeling it may be the oudist that replaced him after his death in 63 or 64). Am I wrong or am I wronger??

Well, I can tell you that the song was Es'al Rohak. But the player is not el Qasabji. Any other guesses?

OK sang that song after el qasbji passed away. and u can tell that wasnt el qasbji style. IMO, el qasabji style was too close to Farido, i mean both of them are hitting the strings on the same way, very stong and clear sound.

My first guess was wrong . . since she sang this song in 1970, Al Qassabji couldn't have been the oud player.

Even though this song was done by Al Muji, I think it still may be by the oudist that replaced Al Qassabji. I have a biography on OK, and I'll check and let you guys know . . .

BTW, I am really impressed with some of the observations made her on this thread. You guys really take this seriously. Keep it up, I thought the love for this art was dead . .

even though hadeeth aynayn was composed by Sunbati, i dont think sunbati is playing that taqasim, it doesnt sound like his style at all.

Hey guys. It's been about 6 months now since anyone last saw this post. No one figured out who the oud player was? The clip was from Es'al Rohak, by the way.

Unfortunately, I don't have the clip with just him playing his 1 minute solo. The whole song, though, can be streamed from the Om Kolthoum site at http://www.omkolthoum.com

The direct link to the song is here:

Es'al Rohak

The solo is after a minute or so, so you don't have to wait too long.

Hey guys,

So I never got to tell you all who the player is! His name is Abdel Fatah Sabry. Apparently, there was a contest for the spot of being Om Kolthoum's oudist, and the top two players were Abdel Fatah Sabry and George Michel, and Sabry won it out.
