Hosam,

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely oud with us. It is one of the most beautiful ouds I ever seen. It must sound so nice - would you kindly share a sound file when possible please? Also thanks for putting a photo of the stand for me. That was so kind of you Hosam.

Play it in good health.

Stay well

Kind Regards,

thanks for posting your oud, hosam.
Is there laquer/finish on the top and finger board?
I wonder from oud makers how you decide if to put laquer or not.
tnx

hosam - forgive me for not recognizing the name earlier. i understood his name to be mourad al-turki but my oud was made by him as well - see:

http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=2746#pid176...

i'm very curious to know where his shop is; how you met him; how old a man he is; the price range of his ouds ... what was it like (?!?) being there? in short, please tell me all about it.

fraternal greetings ... here's a photo of me and mine (i recognize the slightly indented, finishing tip at the end of the peg box):

Thank you all again. The finger board is finished. I am not sure what kind of finish is used.

I did not buy this oud myself. My brother in-law did from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Price paid 2200 SAR (1 $US = 3.75 SAR) after negotiating the price down. This is my second oud made by Murad Al-Turki totally by accident, as I did not know who the maker was until I got the oud.

I bought my first oud the last time I was in Cairo from one of the larger musical shops at Mohammed Ali Street in older part of the city, but I never met Murad. That was back in the summer of 2000. I recall the long conversation I had with the shop owner. He was the one that recommended that oud for me. It seems that Murad has a smaller shop in the same area but he supplies the larger shops as well. I was told that the local working musician prefer his ouds for quality and price. As for his age I am guessing he is in his thirties based on the photo in the label. I am pleased with both ouds.
