podcast

Hey udis, I thought i'd share this. I play on violinist Sami Abu Shumay's Arabic music podcast this week. We play a little bit and talk a lot (too much, i think). YOu can check it out here (along with some older episodes, like Amir El-Saffar doing Iraqi maqam and Arabic trumpet):

http://shumays.libsyn.com/

or look it up on iTunes podcasts.

for those of you that don't know what a podcast is, it's just an mp3, usually in a radio-style, that you can sign up for and have automatically downloaded to your computer every time there's a new episode. Then you can listen to it whenever you want. You don't have to sign up, though; if you want, you can just download an individual show.

Brian,

Thanks for the info. Sami's podcasts are great. I just asked him a couple weeks ago when an oud-based podcast was coming. He said soon. I'm so glad it features you. I'm downloading it now....

Just finished listening, Brian. Great playing. Very interesting. I was hoping for more of that song at the end with the violin though. What song is that?

Thanks, Samir. to subscribe, you need to use a "podcatcher"--a program that lets you subscribe to podcasts and then downloads them automatically.

iTunes will do it, if you have it installed. just go to podcasts, and search "arabic music". Sami's show will appear and you can subscribe to it. you can also right-click and download old episodes.
There are other programs, too, like mypodder.

Brian,

Thanks for the link to this informative piece. Of course I enjoyed your playing, as always, but it was also really nice to hear the interview and get a feel for who you are and where you're from.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Greg
