Good eyes, Samir. Word finally got out! You should see the check these people wrote me when I signed their contract. It was for millions. Well, millions of their currency. It actually cashed out at about $0.37. :D

That's an interesting looking program. Anyone tried it yet?

Well the Internet Country Code ".eg" is Egypt, but as an Australian you couldn't be expected to know that Emad ;)

You must have over estimated me Greg

This is why the Australian Government is looking into making some kind of knowledge test for people before they are allowed to Australia. Lucky I got away with my ignorance mate :))

So it is made in Egypt ... Here you go we did not only build the pyramids :D we made oud software too.

Seriously, I guess the oud software will enable me for example to make up a file for a song like "Linda .. Linda" and e-mail it to my friend Pal. It will be much easier for him to learn the song that way. Don't you think?

You're probably right Emad. Although, if I understand the process correctly, you would need to make a midi file to begin with. That would require using an oriental midi keyboard or a musical notation program capable of microtones.
It's a nice little program though. What about that Samir recognising Jameel's oud :applause: An AMAZING eye for detail.

Greg

They have made a keyboard software too

check it out

http://www.pro.com.eg/mazzika/

It allows you to play 1/4 of tone and the lot :D

Egyptians are not just pretty faces hey ;)

I like it because it may help me help others when they need something simple to follow.

Samir is spot on indeed.

Cheers,

Hey! guys...dont overestimate me over here
hehehe :D

Thats definetly an indicator of one thing.... I spend way too much time on the forums.

The program is really nice. Only thing is If I could re-record the sounds on the oud or get an addon that lets you hear it like a oud instead of a piano.?

From the software maker

I just contacted this software maker in regards to the oud sound , here is what they said ...

>Dear Emad,
>
> Thank you for your message.
>
>Making the sound an oud sound is a big issue.
>First, it will require specific types of sound cards, and certainly not the on-mothorboard audio controller. For many people it will mean buying and installing new hardware.
>Second, Different types of sound cards require different ways (in terms of programming) to produce the oud sound. The software development cost will be high, and consequently the program price will be much higher than the current $15.
>
>For these reasons I chose to settle for the piano sound, at least in the first version.
>
>Regards,
>Wael Hegazy

When playing midi files, I normally use the orchestral harp lowered an octave (software synth instrument).
It doesn't sound like an oud, but it is a whole lot closer than piano. That would be an easy one for Wael to implement.

Greg

Good on you Greg

I have forwarded an e-mail to Wael with a link to this thread. I hope he pays us a visit and read what we say about his work. I am sure he is going to have a laugh at me too ;).

Thank you my dear.

Thank you Emad for directing me to this nice forum and these nice people. And thank you all for your comments about the Oud Tutor.

Actually Mazzika (the keyboard program) was a predecessor of the Oud Tutor. I wrote the first (unpolished) version of it about 8 years ago for the sole purpose of teaching my kids (7 and 8 years old at that time) Arabic music. That effort seems to have paid off as they are now good Oud and Qanoon players. Last year I added some features to the program and made it public. The response to Mazzika encouraged me to put together an Oud program (the Oud Tutor).

It took me a while to weigh the trade-offs of producing a real Oud sound, and the result was as Emad quoted above. It is worth noting that I modified the piano sound a bit by cutting off the note time a bit earlier than what is normal in piano sound. Greg is right; it is easy to implement the Oud Tutor with providing the user a choice to use either the piano sound or the orchestral harp sound. I'll take that into consideration in the next version.

Regards,

Wael

Welcome Wael

Thank you for your visit. I am sure all members here will be more than happy to help you develop your software - by giving you enough hard time and unlimited questions :D

Say hello to everyone you meet in Egypt for me. I hope it's not too much to ask. ;)

Take care !

Wow!!! This looks like an invaluable resource for students of the Oud, especially those (like me) who have very limited access to a teacher. Thanks Wael, I wish you all the best with its development. :applause:

Wael,

Although it would increase the file size considerably have you considered using wav samples triggered by the midi? There are some fairly convincing oud sounds on modern keyboards or you could easily make your own samples. Obviously, it would be impossible to capture the nuance of a real oud with midi playback but it may help out some people.

This is a very nice program, I hope it catches on and we can get all those great tunes converted to this format.
