Hello Sammy,

I was asked for this song long ago by Palstine - and I let him down many times.

I hope he forgives me.

Here is a slow playing for it. Playing starts at g open string

and the notes goes as follows ...

* First part.

2x g (a flat) g f (a flat) g , 2x g (a flat) g f (e flat) f (e flat) d g.

{played two times}.

* Second part.

2x g f (e flat) d c – 2x f (e flat) d c (b flat) – (b flat) c d (e flat) f 2x (b flat) 2x (a flat) g.

Kind Regards,

You are welcome Sammy,

To my knowledge it is a Lebanese folk song. I could be wrong. We have lots of lebanese members here to tell more.

I tune my oud to CFAdgc - if you have five strings then FADgc will do.

Enjoy the song and Happy birthday to your father.

Kind Regards,

Shalom Sammy,

Israel-Music.com also sells a DVD with a version by Samir Shukry, a Palestinian-Israeli singer and violinist/oudist: http://www.israel-music.com/samir_shukri/greatest_hits/dvd/ There is no sample of this version from the DVD, but I have his old cassette, "Hafla," which has a famous and more traditional version (lots of violin and qanoun) of the song than Haim Moshe's version (which I also have).

I re-listened to and played with both versions last night and they play the song in the key of B (!) Kurd (?).

Don't forget that 2 versions of this song, appropriately irreverant (in my opinion) Arabic/Hebrew bilingual versions in my opinion, were recorded by 3 Mustaphas 3, sample here: http://www.noside.com/Catalog/CatalogAlbum_01.asp?Album_ID=1

And I think Emad is right about the song being from Lebanon.

Shalom/Salaam,
Udi John

It is a Lebanese song. I believe it was popularized by George Wassouf in the 70's. Haim Moshe just covers it - actually a lot of Israeli singers sing arabic songs, sometimes in arabic and sometimes they translate them in hebrew.
