Baglama-Saz

Dear all,
I know that this is not an oud related question, but I am currently in Istanbul and would like to buy a baglama. I was wondering, if there are any recommendations that you can provide. I found a nice one that I liked in Istanbul Muzik Center in Galipdede Cad. He is asking for 400 YTL this includes a really nice case and three sets of strings. I checked out in other places and I found that that one was the most reasonably priced, in relation to its quality. I know nothings about Balagmas; what to look for; what to ask for!
cheers
p.s. I totally forgot to take my camera with me today.:(

From experience i have to tell you that Istanbul Muzik Merkezi and Mr. Mustafa the owner is the best place if you look for very nice instruments in affordable prices.

I recommend him.

Juniper wood is the best for sliced bowls.
It is a rare frest wood and sounds perfect.

istanbul muzik merkezi

Hi,
Istanbul Muzik Merkezi is a nice shop, Ross Daly told me I should go there lookin to find nice ouds, baglamas, and various othre turkish folk instruments.

I bought one of my sazes from Mustafa, he is a pleasant man. If you can get some pictures from in teh shop, let us know!

Is it long neck of short neck baglama?

Hello Khanabat,

There is another store on Galip Dere Street that sells mostly violins, but has really nice baglamas as well. I would recommend that you look at that store as well. In addition, there is a store a little further down called Elvis Muzik. It's also good.

If you would like a nice baglama, I recommend that you check out some places not in the Galip Dere area. For instance, you could check out Yussuf Toraman in Aksaray, Onar Muzik Evi in Avcilar or Cengiz Sarakus. The may be a little more that what you would find in Istanbul Muzik Merkezi, but you would be buying directly from the luthier this way, and they would give you a guarantee. Their instruments are nice, and the don't cut corners.

I have two baglamas from Onar Muzik Evi and both are really sweet. In fact, they have two shops--one in Avcilar and the other in Sisli.

Good luck!

It is a short neck Balagma. I found it to be a really nice size. I dont think I will have time to go there twice. I might go there today or tomorrow and just buy it.
