pentatonic scales in arabic music ...

Though I'm far from being knowledgeable about the basic scales, I am really interested in knowing about the pentatonic scales and their rules ...

I'm also interested in knowing what would improvisations on these scales would sound like in arabic music.

Regards,
Hamid

hi amtaha ;
I would like to say that the pentatonic scales exist in arabic music,
in fact the characteristic of the tunisian scales is the use of the petatonics which consists of using thirds and avoid as much as possible the adjacent notes.
example : the mazmoum scale is the analog of F Major in western scales and to the Ajam on F. but in mazmoum we use for example : F - A - C - A - G- B(b) - G - F
as an example here is an improvisation on the mazmoum scale which is based on pentatonic scale:

taksim on nay maqam mazoum

regards
