www.oudcafe.com update - Muhayyer Saz Semai

Hi guys. The new update is here at the Oud Cafe if you'd like to stop by and check it out. We're focusing on the beautiful Muhayyer Saz Semai by the one and only Tanburi Cemil Bey, famous composer and multi-instrumentalist who died in the early 20th cent.

Take care,

mav

I had the honor of checkin Mav's site last night, but didn't get a chance to post. Mav... I'm not sure how many surprises you have in store for us, but keep it comin! This stuff is fantastic. Muhayyer was a maqam who's name was foreign to me a few months ago, and I only heard one clip of someone playing it (I forget his name).

I had all but forgotten about it until you brought it up now, and I thank you. Mav, I've seen you develop this site from the beginning, and I (and I'm sure the rest of the people here) am very proud of you. Oud Cafe for life! :D

thanks for all your great feedback guys. you know as well as i do that i couldn't do anything without all your help.

THANKS :wavey:

mav

ps-i think muhayyer is much more common in ottoman music than in arabic, that's probably why you haven't heard that much about it. also i have it for this month b/c i'm trying to show the importance of direction in the makams, that's why i had mahur right after rast, and now muhayyer right after huseyni.:D

For anybody who missed it, Mavro has some new recordings on his site in the classical repertoire column. Take a listen to his killer Najarian oud and playing. The sirto is all Mavro too, and I mean all Mavro. A one man ensemble. Pretty cool stuff.
