Building an oud with or without a mold.

I am thinking about building an oud. I have DrOud's book and he suggests that you should build and oud without a mold. On the other hand I have seen builders on this forum describing building oud with a mold.
I build my bouzoukia with a mold because of the complex curves found in the bouzouki. Can someone give me the pros and cons on this subject.
