size of nazih's new oud

Hey guys,

I saw an oud by nazih on his website it looks awsome but he explained it to be rather small. its 58.5 cm in string length and the the soundboard is 50 cm by 35 cm.

How does that compare to other ouds from various countries. is this close to the size of a turkish oud?

Hi,

The string length is definitely like that of a Turkish style oud. Off hand I don't know about the other dimensions. :)

to me, it makes playing much more simpler if the string length is 58.5cm istead of 60cm

but the issue of the bowl size is critical ! sometimes smaller ouds doesn't sound as nice as bigger ones !

I played one of haluk's ouds tuned to arabic and it was really nice. The sound was really mellow and soulfull. The guy who I tried his oud here is the professor he came over to my house to hang out and he brought it along. he took some videos of me just playing around maybe he still has them. I'll ask him so you can hear it.

My Ghabdan's oud is almost like my Turkish oud.
Can you see it at http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3319#pid218...
For me, the dimensions are perfect.
