Hi Mike
I remember reading an interview with Ahmed Mukhtar about the time when he had to flee from Iraq. They made him hand over his oud at the border, even
though it was very dear to him.
I wonder where that oud is now? I also wonder what the situation is now regarding the oud in general in Iraq, and whether any of the Iraqi exile oud
players/makers plan to return?
Best wishes
David

If the house was burning, after getting my family out I would grab the Nahat on the way out.

Yah, I think I'd have a stroke. And my oud isn't valued at that much. This guy's violin was 3 mil! I mean c'mon buddy, tie it
around your neck or something.

Hi,
In my teens, I had bought a student violin (cheap cheap cheap), and left to go buy some music for it. Driving back home with my 'precious'
cargo of crappy violin and meager scales I decided to forgo stopping at a stop sign. Long story short, a truck broadsided me and flipped my car over.
(Some how my meat body didn't have a scratch... Not a broken bone or nothin). But I still got a ride in the ambulance, in my daze to the medic or
cop, I forget, I pleaded with them to 'go, please, please get the violin & music out of the trunk!'.... its like all I could think of at
the moment... as if surviving wasn't enough! go figure, kids these days!
