Bamboo Oud

Ever since bamboo flooring and cutting boards starting hitting the market recently, I've been fascinated by this material and it's potential. I guess though that when they say there is nothing new under the sun, it's literally true. Check out this bamboo oud, made in the 30's in Brooklyn. Anyone ever hear of this maker?

Bamboo being more of a grass is very fibrous. I would think that it would resonate differently than wood. What is the soundboard made of? Maybe there is no soundboard, from that great picture you got of the label.

Bamboo is amazing stuff. I have a friend who's started up a business making compressed bamboo flooring in Bangladesh. He says his plantation grows about 6 inches a day - that's probably an oud bowl every 2 weeks for every stalk! Jameel, if you go down this route, you're going to have to work faster! (Some varieties in ideal conditions can apparently grow up to 2ft a day).
