Ferahfeza peshrev?

Here´s a beautiful piece played on yayli tanbur:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1c3dR_dizA&mode=related&sea...

One of the comments mentioned this to be ferahfeza peshrev. Is this correct, and who is the composer? I´d like to find sheet music for this.

Thanks, Arto

These are the Ferahfeza Son Peshrev and the Son Yuruk Semai by Zeki Mehmed Aga. They are traditionally performed as the final pieces of the Ferahfeza Ayin, the suite accompanying the ritual dance of the Mevlevis (Whirling Dervishes).

Thanks a lot, al-Halabi. I have been trying to find sheet music but am not sure about the results. The peshrev doesn´t correspond well to what Mr Voulgaris is playing, and I have not found yuruk semai. Could somebody help me in locating sheet music for this in internet?

PS: what does "son" mean, in son peshrev, for example?

Thanks, Arto

Arto, "Son" refers to "final"...final pesrev in this case of an entire mevlevi ayin suite.

if you send me a u2u with your email address and I can email you the notation for the entire ayin.

Arto,

The first movement of the pesrev on the recording does not match the standard notation.

Thank you so much for help, Adam and al-Halabi! The piece is great.

The "key" notation for the suite seems to differ from part to part: sometimes "normal Western" (5 comma) flat sign, sometimes 1 comma flat sign for B note. I found this at David Parfitt´s site about makam Ferahfeza:

"Sometimes the B flattened by five commas (Kurdi) is replaced by B flattened by one comma (Segah), in allusion ot Bayati makam"

Is there some logic about when one or the other "b" is written in the beginning of the sheet music line?

thanks, Arto

Arto,

The key signature varies because the Mevlevi ayin would typically have some modulation within it , with some of the four selams composed in makams other than the main makam of the suite. Makam Ferahfeza, by the way, is a "compound" makam (murekkeb makam), that is, it features an overlay of several makams (Buselik, Cargah, and Bayati). Pieces in Ferahfeza have parts that bring out one or another of these makams associated with Ferahfeza, but the usual key signature of Ferahfeza compositions is b-flat, with the changes of the b to segah taking place within the notation during the Bayati parts. The tonic of Ferahfeza is D, but the Bayati within it is played on A (dugah), that is, on the conventional tonic of Bayati.

There is a nice oud version of the Ferahfeza pesrev and yuruk semai on Munir Nurettin Beken's CD.
