Major website update

Hi All

Just to let you know that I have updated my website recently, so there is plenty of new information and a whole new look to it as well. It is still a 'work in progess' and I still have to add some pages and pics, but hopefully they will appear soon! (There are over 200 pages so it has taken longer than I expected to update it all.)

Let me know if you have any suggestions, comments or criticisms, and keep sending me the pictures for the Oud Gallery.

Here is the website address just in case any of you don't have it:

http://website.lineone.net/~david.parfitt/

Best wishes

David

Hi David

Just had a quick look at the updated site whilst still at work. Looking good! Will spend more time over the weekend absorbing the new info.

Thanks for sharing what you know with the rest of us.

regards
Michael

Hi Michael

Regarding the seyir information for Turkish makams that I mentioned to you previously, I have not added it to my website for copyright reasons. I would have needed to scan around 50 quite large excerpts from the Zeki Yilmaz book, and I was not sure whether this was allowed.

However, if you would like the notation for the seyir of any particular makam I can certainly scan it and email it to you - this is probably a less risky alternative!

All the best

David

Nice update, David! The navigation is very clean, fast and efficient. I await your take on Persian Music for the oud. While it is not the primary stringed instrument in Iran, almost every ensemble I've seen on Iranian sattelite channels and some concerts include the oud, or Barbat. There is an interesting Persian version oud (Barbat) with the string length of a Turkish oud but a longer neck/shorter body. Hossein Behrouzinia plays a replica styled Barbat and I saw some others on my trip to Iran. Also of interest are the Iranian oud makers, notable Mohammed Arafati, a 3rd generation builder. He has applied a scientific calculated design to a variety of oud sizes and shapes he produces. They all play and sound fantastic, and I'm not so easily impressed.
