Oud Repair in New York City?
Hi:
I am new to this forum and a tyro oud wannabe. I received a beautiful oud for christmas three years ago and was not able to begin to try to play it
until recently.
It was then that I discovered it was cracked in two places. I'd like to get it repaired, as well as get an intro to how to string it/tune it. It
came with some but not all strings, and the pegs are very stiff, all wooden with very little "stick". I was tempted to try the violin peg
trick of applying chalk to the pegs before stringing, but that didn't cut it either.
Anyone know of any place in the New York city area where I could get the oud
1. repaired
2. strung correctly with demonstration
3. get an hour's worth of beginning instruction.?
I hope to read some feedback soon. til then,
ciao

Hi,
Unfortunatelly to repair a oud, especially in New York area, cost too much. My best advice is to buy a new oud or a used oud that does not need repair
unless you have a great professional oud and it's worth investing.
I know that with the money you put to repair a oud you can easily buy a new one instead.
Good luck to you anyway

Oud Repair Etc.
thanks so much, oudhists!
I will try to contact Mr. Shaheen--and I'll seriously weigh the other comment regarding fixing vs. buying a new one. I'm hoping I can just
fix because the one I have has sentimental value attached to it.
best wishes to all for an early spring!
