This is a very nice CD, with some beautifully expressive oud improvisations exploring a whole range of maqams. Unlike his instrumental composition
Jadal, in which Marcel Khalife sought to demonstrate that the oud could work in polyphonic settings typical of Western music, this one-hour
composition is grounded in the traditional taqsim tradition. An upright bass and percussion provide the accompaniment, at times with jazzy effects,
but the oud dominates.

I am a Marcel Khalife fan since the Jadal masterpiece. But I must say this new recording was really un-impressive for and disappointing. I found the
music was quite boring actually. I hated the overdubs which made it feel fake.
Some of it was nice, partly the solo oud but the recording felt artificial for me.
