Let me be annoying... I need a saz in Istanbul

Ok, the Istanbul travelling season has started.:xtreme:.. here is my silly request. I would like someone to help me find a quality vs. price deal for a saz... In Istanbul

I would like to have a rather professional saz, medium-long neck one.not to much fancy, but nice and clear ound.

can you name me like the 3 or 4 best handmade sazes places to see?

I searched the forums.. but I wanted a kind of an update on what is available in Istanbul 2007

Sorry, its the only oriental instruments forum I know around, and people here are so nice, honest and helpful.

THANK YOU
chaldo

Hi there!
They have such a lot of sazes over there in Tunel street, they are much cheeper than ouds and because of such a popularity of the instrument there are a lot of good ones. I got one, don't know the name of the builder, but it's good, and costs around 200$. Good luck.

See who the best players are and se what they play. Onar/ Muzik/ Arif Sag seems to be the best to me by the look of the website and who plays the instrument. Check out the website and see what I mean.

____
Marina, thanks for your advice, I will surely be around Tunel street.

____
oudipoet, thank you muchs!

This is amazing, Yusuf Toroman's sazs look superb!! I wonder how reasonable their price is, As I am planing on paying around 400$.

____
Haluk, I will be coming from the Hakkari region... I could make it to Aydin on my way to Istanbul. If I get there, I will most probably be able to reach you.

____
Lintfree, I think you loose it when you see too many sazs out there... how to chose a good saz? I think this is an important question. 1- sound, 2 - how solid it is (bridge) 3 - woods used (jupiter is good) 4 - how much ornnementation...

thanks all

dear chaldo

i think u should be able to find something in this price range easly at toroman muzik evi as i said before they have a huge sellection of sazs from students to grand concert one such as the one arif sag plays so good luck and have a great time in turkey which i am sure you will.

little history lesson

in 1980 arif sag and yusuf toroman were partners and they have opened arif sag muzik evi and they made sazs until 1990
arif sag had quit this partnership in 1990 cos of his bussy schedule but he still plays toroman sazs in most of his concerts and albums and the shop they have opened together still exist under the name of toroman muzik evi

ps: i sure would love to see some picttures u will take on your journey

arif sag playing toroman saz

similar saz in progress

Hi all and thanks oudipoet.

Haluk, I know how hospitable Turkish people are. It would be a pride for me to see you working.

Here is the resume of what I understood are the best luthiers in Turkey:

Toroman Muzik Evi (Istanbul)

Haluk (not in Istanbul)

Akdeniz saz evi eresim bilgileri (Istanbul)

Yussuf Toraman in Aksaray (Istanbul)

Onar Muzik Evi in Avcilar or Cengiz Sarakus (Istanbul)

Baris Muzik and Tekinler Saz Evi (Istanbul)

Are they all in the same categoty of quality sazs?

thanks all for helping
