Yorgo Bacanos CDs

Hi

I'm in need of some advice. I just bought a Yorgo Bacanos CD from Traditional Crossroads (1900-1977), and I now found that there is a CD from Kalan music with the same name but different tracks on it.

Does anyone know anything more about the Kalan recording, or can recommend it?

Best wishes

David

I Think Yorgos Bacanos played a Manol Oud...

Nikos,
I thought so, but was not sure.
What about the great Udi Hrant, Is he playing a Karibyan? I love the sound of his oud.

Hi, I know Mutlu Torun in Istanbul has one or two of Batzanos' Manol uds, and Udi Hrant definitely played Karibyan uds, but I don't know if they exclusively played those, and not others as well.

David, if you like Batzanos' playing, definitely get the other album. There are several releases that have some overlapping tracks, but also some unique tracks also.

Take care,

mav

Thanks for all the feedback guys - I'll definitely buy the Kalan CD.

Nikos, do you know where I could get the En Chordais CD online? Are there some specialist Greek CD stores that would sell it?

Best wishes

As i know they sell it in their store in Thessaloniki. They used to have a website too (http://www.enmusic.gr) but seems to be not active any more.

I can give you their tel-number : 0030-2310-282248 .Maybe there is a way to order the Cd...

P.S. they have other interesting Cd's too like "Zaharias Khanendeh" , "Prosmoni" with Kiriakos Kalaitzidis in Oud etc...

The En Xordais version is also sold at Greek-American stores, like: greek music & video

That's where I got it.

Yeah Nikos, Batzanos was just an all around amazing musician, I love listening to him.

Take care,

Hi Mav

I checked the Greek Music & Video site but I couldn't seem to find the Batzanos CD listed (I looked under the 'Instrumental' section). If it is not there, can I ask whether you know of any other sites worth trying?

I'm really annoyed with myself because I had the opportunity to buy the CD from Kyriakos when I was in Greece. Problem was I had completely run out of money, as I had already bought around 20 CDs, music books, a bouzouki and and a lavta!!!

All the best

David

P.S. Great photos of your trip to Egypt! It was so nice that you had some knowledgeable friends to accompany you - I remember when my wife and I went to Cairo around five years ago, I had no idea where to look for ouds and walked right past Mohammed Ali street!
