width of neck
Hi fellow Oud players- I play an 11 course Turkish oud, and was curious to know the width of the neck on some of your ouds. I purchased my oud ready
made which is a good quality student model, and the width of the neck at the nut is 37mm, and then 5.5 cm where it meets the body. When I am ready to
upgrade or purchase another oud, I would like the neck to be a bit wider, and was curious what some of you have to say on this subject. thanks!

I wanted to ask about this as well. I seem to be having problems playing pairs of strings at the same time when they are next to each other. I thought
it might be the fingering angle or that I'm pressing too much, but to no avail.
On my oud, it's 35mm and 52mm.

I recently got a Mustafa Copcuoclu oud that had a nut that was 1.5 inches wide and all my problems went away. (Translated to millimeters I'm not sure
what that is.) Everything became easier to play. For my fingers and the way I play that's the best.

It does seem like fair idea, at least for me, to pick up an oud with a wider neck next time around (which will take place in due time and money)
But what still keeps me wondering is whether there's something technically wrong with the way I play.
I say this because of two reasons -
One, on guitar forums you frequently find the inquiry of people with large fingers having difficult in press a certain in one string at time, and the
answer is commonly practicing the extra mile until you get it right. (Of course, they always get the advantage of being readily capable of playing
barre chords, but that's another story.)
Two, in Jameel's commentary on his new Shehata, he writes

Which, more or less, is an indication that there's a bit of essential technique in this matter, in addition to the actual measurement of the neck
width.
