Welcome aboard.

In what follows, I'm summarizing things that I come across in the forum.

There's a shop in Masged el-Attareen called Higazi
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=3173&pa...

There might be another shop in the same street.

However, it seems that you'd have a much wider variety to chose from if you head to Cairo. There's a thing about Mohamed Ali street that it might be a hard to find something wortwhile over there. However, you ought to go through there anyway because you never know.

The Mohd. Ali Jaafar or Ga'far (phone 0122712573) has been mentioned to make Iraqi ouds. Apparently, he's in the vicinity of Beit Al-Oud and makes ouds based on Shamma's suggestions for the Beit's students.

Mohamed Marco (phone 3022808 - most probably in cairo) is also another mention without much details.

The post prominent mention on the forum is for Maurice Shehata - he has a shop called Al-Aseel and the office's address is 80 Masr and Sudan St. (I believe the workshop is in a different place.) Given what I've seen, the workmanship is superb and the sounds ...

Finally, there has been a mention or two of someone called Murad Al-Turky. Now, I haven't been able to extract his details - if someone can provide it for us, it would be great.

At any rate, please, please, please browse the forum through the search utility, look at the ouds and look at the prices.

Most of them have phone numbers. Call them before you make your trip to Cairo.

After a year and a half, you ought to consider some investment in a decent oud (the difference is worthwhile).

But you ought to know what you want out of your instrument and how much is your budget.

Good luck .. !

Hamid

Well, Beit el Oud doesnt teach the egyptian way of playing....
They foccus the teaching to play like Naseer Shamma and in the style of Naseer Shamma.
Listen to what he has to say on the egyptian style of playing the oud.

When you go visit these makers ask them for a contact of a teacher I garantee they will be able to help you.

I'm not familiar with how things are in Egypt.

But I know that there are several private schools of music in Alexandria. You probably know Alexandria better than me so you know where these things are. I also know that there's a conservtoire in Alexandria, but I'm not sure whether they teach oud in there.

Perhaps if you pass by Higazi, as Samir suggests, he'll be aware of possible tutors in the area.

At any rate, don't worry. Your chances of finding a tutor in Alexandria are grandly higher than most of this forum's members where they are. :-) After all, this Darwish's city!

Yes :) , it is darweesh's city
i will pass by higazi soon , but can someone familliar with him tell me how much money could i have to buy a decent yet not expensive oud from there?
conservtoire does not teach oud
and i want to learn egyptian oud with all respect to naseer , i feel it more when it is egyptian , and i dont think the country that brought sayed darweesh and abdelwahab and very recently wageeh 3azeez is bad at oud!!!!

find murad al turky

radixfc posted the photos of his oud in
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=4163&pa...

Off the label, you can find his numbers are
02 654 5385
012 7804346

However, it seems rare that someone purchases an oud from him directly. Personally, I think it would be nice if you can go right to the source.

I'm still hoping someone who actually met this master would shed more light.

Regards,
Hamid

p.s. It''s not a battle - just different approaches with different means, and there's nothing "wrong" with any school. It depends on what you want out of your instrument and there's no "best" way to get that out. Enjoy!
