Machine tuners for oud
Has anyone tried this? If so how well has it worked, and what kind of tuners would you recommend I use?
-Thanks

I've seen it done, but it usually causes the instrument to be too top-heavy.
Check these out: http://www.pegheds.com/
I've talked to Nazih Ghadban about these, and he says the cello pegs might work for an oud. You can get them in real ebony too. The main drawback is
the expense.

I am sure that cello pegs won't work on oud. Viola pegs are common, but cello pegs are way too big.

We apply mechanical tuners on oud when requested.
Cumbus tuners are appropriate for ouds.
Total weight of 11 pegs 80 grams.

It seems to be very fantastic.

An idea of the price.

Thanks for the advice all, but of course, funny enough, the string slipping issue has seemed to have resolved itself the next day after posting. I've
never played an instrument with peg tuners before this, so I didn't realize how arduous tuning can actually be. Part of the appeal of the oud also is
getting away from "modern" things, and I think machine tuners somewhat detract from the oud's beauty too. Although, those "Pegheds" look useful, if
they're not a ludicrous amount of money I might have them installed and let you guys know how they work out.
