Difference between Turkish and Arabic ouds.

Is their a significant difference between Turkish ouds and Arabic ouds? Is a Syrian oud the same as an Arabic oud? If not, what are the differences? Thanks.

Hi

Turkish oud are more smaller in size and lighter (than the Arabic oud) with mainly unfinish soundboard and short fingerboard.

As for the Arabic type of oud-more bigger size with a lot of decorative (mother of pearl etc) mainly over the soundboard and bit heavier. Soundwise really depends on the individual (I find that most Arabic oud produce a brighter sound and loads of trebble on Turkish oud)

Im not too familiar with Syrian oud but Im sure that they are very good oud too! I think the wellknown oud builder from Syria is Mr Ibrahim Sukar? Right?

These are just basic comparison to those 2 type-hope other members can provide more info on this matter.

Regards
