Truss rods
Do ouds come with truss rods? For those who don't know what a truss rod is, it is a steal rod that is located in the center of the neck of a
guitar, banjo, or mandolin that straightens the neck when bowed. Thanks.

Ibrahim Sukar uses a similar system so the neck can be lowered if it raises after years under tension.

Yes I think Jameel is right-Ibrahim Sukar does place a truss rod inside the neck of his oud for tension purposes. The same technique use for acoustic
n electric guitar.

Hi,
This truss rod does not work on the oud, the oud is Fragile instrument, if you do not know how to use it, you might end up with the soundboard
collapsing, and to replace the soundboard in Europe, you will have to pay more than the price of the oud.

Its true actually what Adel said-even my 18 years of experience playing the guitar I dont dare to touch or play around with the truss rod! Wrong move
can cause damage to the instrument. Im not sure whether an Oud need a truss rod

I don't use a truss rod because of the weight of the rod, and the shortness of the oud's neck. The neck rarely warps actually, but it can
bend where the peg box notch is cut. Another situation that raises the action is the neck joint loosening so that the neck actually separates, even a
tiny bit at the neck joint. It might not be noticable, but a small movement here can translate to a noticeable change over the length of the neck.
I use a laminated center stringer through the center of the neck, peg box and neck block to eliminate all of the above conditions
The major factor in raising the action is the body of the oud warping under string tension. This causes the tail to raise up, lifting the bridge and
strings to a new height. Many old ouds show evidence of repair for this condition. The soundboard must be removed and the top edge of the body trimmed
down to realign the instrument.

i am planning to make my own oud, so i started to but the required tools for that. i want to buy the machine that cuts the wood in slides for
the soundboard of the oud, and each slide should be 4 milimeter thick?!.

ing without it.
