Show me your Padauk ouds...
We all know that padauk turns to a dark red-brown with time.
I'd like to see some aged padauk ouds that reflect this.
The reason I ask is that I picked up a large plank of perfectly quartersawn padauk recently and it would make fantastic oud ribs.

Hi Jameel!
I'm not sure how aged you want them, but here are some pics of my 2001-made Turkish oud!

Thanks Arsene. I actually found another piece here in the house that is probably 10 years old. Its a really dark rich red. Very much like your oud.
Regarldless of the color change, I'm going to try making a padauk bowl...

Hi Jameel - Are you dealing with African padauk or Andaman padauk? African padauk is what we're all familiar with. The padauk from the Andaman Islands
in the Bay of Bengal is pinkish with purple stripes, smells like flowers and turns brown as it gets older. It's like pink Indian rosewood and when you
tap it it sounds like metal. It was made illegal to cut down padauk trees in the Andamans in the 80's I think. But I have some boards I bought before
that. Andaman would be great for oud ribs.

By the way, I'never knew what kind of wood the darker ribs were made of [see pictures in my post above] ... Rosewood perhaps? Or is it too dark for
that? Ebony perhaps?

It's African Padauk. The orange stuff. Krenov used Andaman padauk, but I've never seen it. I'd be glad to take it off your hands for you.
