munir and omar bashir - Oud Duet

I really really like this album. Has anyone else heard it? these are very impressive compositions. Did munir and/or omar write these? or are they traditional songs? I'd really be interested in finding some sheet music of them if anyone knows where to find them.

Hi Anto

I have this album, and in the liner notes it says that "...most of these pieces are taken from the repertoire of Near Eastern popular music". 'Fog el-Nakhel' and 'Pasta Baghdadiyya', for example, are described as a popular songs. I guess that Munir Bashir has probably added his own interpretation to them as well.

I think there used to be a video available of 'Duo de Ud'. The best place to look is the Munir Bashir Foundation Portal:

http://www.munirbashir.com

but the site seemed to be down when I checked. You could also have a look at the following site for information:

http://www.omarbashir.hu

Best wishes

David

P.S. If there is any sheet music available you would probably find it at http://zeryab.com

The are off course no sheet music for the recordings done by the Bashirs. But you can get sheet for some of the ¨popular¨ tunes incorporated in the semi improvisations. NB, the CD and DVD differs a lot. The dvd shows a more spontaneous authentic improvisations.
Is essential that one learn by ear.

Best wishes

Ronny
