this is an extract from the first track of "le chant de sanaa - H. al-Ajami & A. Ushaysh" (Institut de monde arab) very beautiful cd
I had to lower a lot the size so the sound got worse..

for the document you have to download all the 2 parts
unzip the first, then winrar ask you for the second part, select it and it's done, you have the whole pdf

it seems that in the uploading all the 3 files lost their extensions (!?)
simply rightclick-rename- add simply .zip after the name of the file qanbus(2) and make the same with the other file qanbus(3)
then you unzip the first one
I tried just now and it works..

Here you can see Hassan al-Ajami on qanbus, Muhammed al-Khamisi on nuhasi and Fuad al Gutry the last luthier of the instrument at 1.30

No problem downloading and opening the pdf files. I have not had time to read the text in detail but the paper seems to be very well researched and
presented. The instrument seems very similar in geometry and proportion to those lutes represented on the engraved metal objects from the Persian
Sassanid era.
Very interested to see that ancient traditional curved, narrow peg box, with carved finial - so impractical that the modern luthier has found it
necessary to improve the design in order to make access to the strings and tuning easier.
