I have just ordered my first oud!
It is a Murad al-Turki Rosewood oud. I absolutely can't wait to recieve it and play it. Does anyone have any advice on what to expect? I will post
pics as soon as I can!

Ok guys here are the pics! In my opinion, this oud sounds, feels, and looks tremendous; exactly what I was looking for! Keep in mind I'm left
handed, so it is strung accordingly (with no problem at all!) Please let me know what you think!

I have a very similar oud from the same maker. It's a decent starter oud, nothing special in my opinion.

I don't think it was a bad egg. You just get what you pay for. I don't know how much you paid, but mine was pretty cheap.

IT looks nice, but to be honest i don't like the different shades of color in the sound board wood!!!
I think this results from using different kinds of woods to make the face, and could affect the sound quality in a way or another. I don't know this
is my personal opinion, and i could be so wrong!!!
Overall, it looks very nice. But why didn't you post pictures of it for the bowel?
Is it a dark bowel?

Thanks for the info man. It looks like the top is made of 3 pieces of straight-grain spruce. To me, this doesn't really seem to affect the tone, but
I am used to playing acoustic guitars, which use multiple piece tops all the time. Even very expensive guitars use bookmatched tops made of 2 pieces,
but I do understand that a solid top is more desirable for an oud.

Very nice oud PrinceAbigor. One of my very first ouds was a Mourad el-Turki oud. I bought it from Gawharet el Fan shop on Mohammad Ali Street in
Cairo. It was very easy to play with nice action and had a very nice sound. You can see pictures of it on David Parfitt's Oud Gallery page.

By the way, it looks like your oud is padauk, not rosewood. Padauk is a beautiful wood and is a popular wood used for bowls. The confusion is that in
Arabic padauk is called "ward". Ward means rose or flower. Not a big deal, but just figured you'd want to know the actual wood used for your oud.

It just has a very heavy coat of laquer. You are seeing the surroundings of the room reflecting off of the bowl.
