Om Kalthoum Orchestra on tour
Just received a nice short video of the Om Kalthoum Orchestra that's been touring the USA.
The video was shot and edited by Sherif Sadek of Akhnaton Films. I'm not sure who the vocalist is. Enjoy!

Hmm... sheet music?, I saw an interview with one of the original members of
Om Kalthoum's orchestra, and he said she would not allow them to use sheet music, to teach them the tunes she would sit and play the songs on the oud
and they had to fill in the rest! which he said made him feel as though he was contributing part of himself to the music... But that was then...
Thanks for the link, though, good stuff!

Hey Sazi
Was that a documentary called "A voice like Egypt" narrated by Omar Sharif? If so, yah, it was the bass player that was interviewed.
Cheers

Hi CQ,
yeah, that sounds about right, on SBS or ABC, years ago, I thought it was a great idea, too many people get hung up on "exact notes"... Me, I can
play or I can read, but 100% for both?... & I love putting my own expression into music without worrying if I am getting it "right". . . Oh the
scene I remember the most was seeing 4 million people in the funeral parade! wow! Still the best., cheers
