Info about Turkish maker named Sadri?
Would anyone have information about a Turkish oud maker by the name of Sadri? I'm going to check out an oud made by him in a few days. Thanks for any
help.

I think you mean Sabri Göktepe.
He is a very well known oud maker from Ankara.Im not sure but i think he passed away some years ago and now his sons are in the business.But i cant be
100% sure.
By the way i own an oud from him.The bowl is a little bit bigger than other turkish ouds from Istanbul,the sound very nice..
The oud you found is old?From the father or the sons?

I don't know. I haven't gotten to look at the oud, yet. I'll get to see it on Thursday. But, even then, I don't know whether I'll be able to tell
whether it was made by the father or sons. Do you have any tips on how figure that out?

I looked at the oud last night. The label says Sabri Göktepe, Ankara, 1996. The fingerboard extends over the face of the instrument, almost to the
soundhole. The soundboard looks like pretty good wood; the grain is fairly straight and tight. The ribs are all the same type of wood, rather than
alternating. They look like mulberry or mohagany. The rosettes look kind of cheap. They are a pure and very flat white and seem to be plastic. A
couple of the pegs are REALLY sticky. The condition is practically new and it has a good case.
I was surprised at how heavy it is. It seems very sturdy, but the sound was never-the-less good. It has good brightness and depth, and reasonably good
volume. I really didn't expect it to sound as good as it did after I felt how heavy it was. I guess that's good if you can build an instrument that is
strong but still sounds good. The strings were very corroded, so it might actually sound great with new strings. The action was good. The asking price
is $750.
Any comments or suggestions?

I think its a good price for a Sabri.If the sound is good and the condition new as you said im sure you found a nice oud from a well known maker.
About pegs and rosettes. Every Sabri oud ive seen or played had cheap pegs and non-horn rosettes (mine are wood ,others had a white thing)..
