Help, Im drawn toward purchasing a gawharet el fan oud from the sphinx shop. Tried to get feedback on this forum as to thier sound but no replies. Is there anybody who owns or has played one that could comment on the sound quality?

Hey Charlie,
Yeah, they have some of the nicer ouds that you can find on Mohamad Ali Street. Dolce just got one, and it seems like he likes it. Actually, he loves it. See the post by Jason, "Show your ouds" to see what I mean. I also bought an oud from them when I was in Egypt in 1999, and it was also one made by the maker, Mourad el-Turki, same as Dolce's. You can see pictures of it on David Parfitt's website in the Oud Gallery page. I think it's a very good choice.

gawharet el fan order

Thanks so much for that Mike, Ive received an email from Essam who took my order, he feels sure I will not be disappointed and has every confidence in the maker(s). Its fingers crossed until it arrives in 20 days time. I will post the outcome on the forum. Thanks again. Charlie
