Pyramid orange label question

Hi, Im expecting my Gawharet el fan oud to arrive from Cairo any day now. I think it will be strung with the Pyramid orange set. As I like to sometimes tune the 5th course to G im wondering if this string set is ok to do this with? ( I think its intended for F). Will tuning this course to G put undue tension on the oud?. Comments appreciated. C x

Hi Charlie

I wouldn't have though that tuning up one course would have that much drastic effect on overall tension. Watch for any lifting at the base of the bridge. Jameel or other luthiers might have more practical experience and be able to do the maths.

best wishes for the new arrival.

Kelly.

Charlie,

I am not a luthier, but according to my modest experience, you can easily tune the lower F into a G, which was and still is frequently done.

Though be careful if your oud is an Kassabji type, means if string length is 63-64 cm... but I don't think it's the case of your oud.

Regards,
OF

I don't see a problem with it. Should be fine.
