cretan lyra
Hey all, I have'nt been practicing the violin for a while and i no
longer own one (I was practicing on a friend's violin). I want to learn another instrument (be it violin or qanun, I hope I can settle for one..) but
now I got into really liking the sound of middle eastern fiddles, kemenche, lyra etc. so I'm thinking of learning on one of these instead of the
violin.
The technique on all these fiddles I believe is more or less similar and so is the sound, so is there any reason why I should prefer one over the
other? On the whole are they harder or easier to play than a violin (using the fingernail to finger notes etc.)? People say about the violin that you
need to start when you're six, but I'm 23, is it the same with these other fiddles?
Too many questions, thanks for any answers.
