How stuff works....

OK, this might sound a little silly, but I don't understand how Electric Ouds work... It doesn't appear that they are using all metal strings.... so what kind of pickups are used? I did a google search on pickups for nylon strings, but everything came back for hollow body guitars... and for the center piece, it doesn't look like its a 'real' hollowbody (since I'm doubting it's using any kind of internal piezio....

So how are these examples below amplified?

Since they are not metal strings, they must use a piezo based transducer. If you see a saddle under the strings you can be relatively sure it is using a ribbon transducer that is placed under the saddle. No saddle? must be a spot transducer of some type. You could buy a few and disassemble them to find out....there are many suppliers of many different types of piezo transducers.
