There is a big culture in the khaliij area and I guess it's dirived from Abbadi el jawhar related to the use of 5 strings oud only. Abbadi sticks on 5
strings oud and he's saying that when adding a sixth string this is a sign of weak playing since you don't control all notes on the fingerboard you
are adding a 6th string. I totally disagree with that idea, and I don't see a relation between technical skills and the addition of more strings. Here
is the continuation of the debate but in arabic unfortunately

I like this very much.
More colours sung by the oud through your approach. And rythmically attractive.
While watching to the clip, I thought to Titi Robin's taqasims, played on the oud or the bouzouk. The tunes follows closed roads.....
Bravo et merci Katakofka!

Thanks Veyselmaster, glad you liked it
Samir, Oudism, I'll keep you informed when I'll be in montreal
Samir, do you think it's possible to meet with the Turkish Oud player and maker near you? ( I forget his name). It would be great if possible. Thanks

Ismail Fencioglu.
I dont have his contact information but I think it should be easy to get.
we could let him know about a possible meeting.
I can propose a location. I am friends with the owner of Al-Dar Cafe on MacKay street.
we could meet there and reserve the uperfloor for us to play music and gather. There would be acces to good food, turkish coffee and shisha.
what do you think fellows?
what about any others willing to meet up?
I think we should make another thread with the subject meeting in montreal ( M&M ) lol.

yes in montreal.
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=mackay+...
Its between Ste-Catherine and Renee levesque.
Its not your typical Ahweh... Its quite fancy actualy.
I am exited for this. It should be a lot of fun.

yep, I know the area but not the cafe. I passed 5 years at the CHUM (centre hospitalier de l'Universite de Montreal, did a PhD in Immunology) which is
close to Rene levesque and St-Catherine.
So we can meet there or near a place where we can see Ismail Fencioglu and meeting him. I am interrested in a Turkish Oud but honestly I never saw one
live. I need to play it first and then decide whether getting one or not. Ismail would be a good choice.
What do you think?

Oh so you must be part of this brain drain they talk about
I think it would be a good idea for sure to bring in Ismail.
I tried to look up his contact info but with no luck.
Anyone know it?
I will also ask Mel Mrabet to come with me. he lives in ottawa here and he is a fantastic oud player.
thats his site. very basic but the playing is really not basic
http://www.artengine.ca/eliany/html/music/mrabet.html
when do you think we can make a tantative date for the meeting?
