Festival du Monde Arabe- Montreal

Hello everyone. I am planning to go for a few days for some concerts, most notably Charabel Rouhana. Anyone from the Montreal area want to meet for dinner, some pre-concert musical exchange and/or chat? I will be in the area for the 30th and going back to New York on Sunday the 2nd. Can't wait

My French is very rusty. I am trying to read the program from the festival but I am having trouble. There is no English translation. There seem to be several events at one time. The night Chabel is playing there is an even at 6:00 on women in music and also it seems there is an open mic if I am reading it correctly. Can you possibly tell me what it is, also how I can get tickets. If I pay online, can I pick up at the box office? Thanks so much!!

Hey guys, Charabel Rouhana's concert in Montreal's soon...I got my ticket and very exited.
Are you still planning to meet at Al-Dar, or any other place...it would be nice to get to meet people from the forums and "put the face to the name" as Shareen said. I have met SamirCanada once at Al-Dar but it was very fast...anyways, if you guys are still planning on this then I'm in for sure, just drop me a msg or U2U and we'll have it arranged.

Ibrahim

Sorry Shareen I missed your message,

translation:
Julia Banzi, musician of all Al Andalus and ethnomusicologist, highlights the role of women in the creation of the Andalusian music, but especially in its spread beyond the Iberian peninsula since the advent of Omayyad in Cordoba the eighth century until the end of the fifteenth, when the fall of Granada. Multiple contributions from women are exposed, particularly with the two pioneering singers and musicians, Gharibat Al Houceine and Al Gharib The Moharrara. The first, which was both singer and poet, eventually become the slave of Prince Al Houceine musician. She was the author of a new method she presented to her Lord on the day of Eid to make him happy. The second, which is none other than her sister, soon also to meet his master in his singing, in a literary circle, a new musical mode. A benefit which gave him his freedom and was called from that day Al The Moharrara Gharib "(the foreign released).

you can ask a taxi to take to you Al-Dar on MacKay street.
between René Levesque and St-Catherine streets.

Great French retaurants are plenty... just depends on your budget.

the 2 best french restaurants in montreal are :
-le pied de cochon.
-restaurant Queue de Cheval.

my personal favorite is a chain of restaurants called -Le Baton Rouge.

Great concert, sorry you missed it. Wish you were there. Charbel spoke Arabic the whole time, great for the audience, no good for me! But really, he was wonderful! :applause:
