share my oud project
Hi everyone, I would like to share my OUD project with you. 3 weeks ago I started building my second oud. my first one was not very nice accoustically
speaking.
Any way, bought some palisander (rosewood) wood by the local fine wood dealer and ordered a moon spruce wood for the soundbord (top) from germany. I
will post some pictures of the working process.
the oud is now finished but the sound is still to fresh. The woods used in this projects are: Rosewood for body, Epecia spruce top, lemon and wallnut
for the pegbox,. I brought lemon and wallnut from morocco couple of years ago.
I'm using Dáddario strings .

final oud
I have used shellac for the finish. There is much to emprove on my next oud, I learned from my mistakes of coures.
I must say that the sound is not bad this time. I will post a sample in couple of days, but I'm a biginner player, don't expect a master piece.
Hope you like it.

you make it look so easy when i know its not! what is the diffrence between using a single piece of wood for the neck and using 2 bits with a
'stringer' in the middle?

Thanks everyone for the reaction: here is a very simple taqsim I tried to accomplish. hope you like the sound.
I'm very curious myself. By the way, the oud is just about 5 days old.

Hi Sabbassi,
Thanks for the sound sample. The oud sounds pretty balanced, and the bass is really nice, especially for such a new oud. The top two strings still
have that "new oud" type of sound, plus it's a new set of strings too, but the balance is good. Just give it time, and you'll be surprised at the
changes, just play it every day !
Your workmanship is excellent, and the bowl is totally cool. The detail around the soundholes is nice too - just kinda hard to see in the picture.
Thanks for sharing the project, and the sound sample. Keep up the good work !
Regards..Paul
