I always tell everybody that you haven't seen much of that youngman's brilliance yet. He still has a lot to offer.
I believe Joe made history introducing the oud to the West in a rather impressive and unique way.
Thanks for the diligent effort and dedication, Joe.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the great comments, really nice of you guys. As for the volume of the oud, its at a good level, but due to youtube I guess the sound and
quality is cut. This session was recorded in November 2006 when I was then playing a 6 string Shehata oud, ofcourse now Im playing a 7 string JT
Turunz oud.
The timing of the piece is 3 bars of 7/8, a bar of 9/8 and then a bar of 4/4. This is one compositions out of 8 for oud and orchestra, hopefully the
album with be out soon!
I guess with orchestrations, we tried to make them modern and not sound corny or from the classical romantic period which is often done with oud. Im
happy with the outcome and feel its quite modern and new. Im glad you guys enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your feedback!
JT
Ps. Here are others with the orchestra, unfortunately with poor sound

Joe, this is really classy stuff. Very inventive use of the orchestra and, as you say, avoiding some of the more cliched use of strings. I really like
the inventiveness in what you do.

Hello JS,
The maqam used for this piece is based on Kord on A, the A phryigian equivalent in western music. There are parts where it kind of Hijaz, so you're
not wrong but its more Kord and scales of the tonal centre of A.
Best of luck!
JT
Ps. Please post a clip of you playing it, it would be great to see how you go.

That's fantastic JT, I can say this is really my type of music. I love your style.
By the way, did you do a few seconds of a taqsim in the song towards the end? Looks like you improvised abit there...
Waiting for more....

That was great. Great playing and excellent orchestral conception --not cheesy like you so often hear!
I love the way those ribbon microphones sound on oud. Was that an old RCA one or one of the modern reconstructions?
