restringing an oud
I asked someone to bring me back an oud from Egypt when they went there and they brought me back one. Unfortunately it was not the best quality...
it's got a fancy inlay design on it (although it's fake MOP) but it was obviously made more for looks than to play quality music from. However, it's
what I'm stuck with for now so I plan to at least attempt to use it but the strings right now are not properly strung at all and are really poor
quality strings I'm sure. I'm trying to find out where I can take it to get it professionally restrung and tuned but all the music stores I've been
to so far say they don't know how to string it or tune it. Anyone know anywhere in Minnesota where you can get an oud properly strung and tuned? Or
can anyone tell me how to attempt this myself. I've never attempted any other string instruments before so it would be an entirely new experience to
do this myself and I wouldn't know where to start. Thanks in advance everyone.

You can do it yourself and it will be something you need to learn to do anyway.
Search these forums for details. This question was answered many times in the past.
You can also look at the linked Websites (e.g. OudCafe and The Oud) that have instructions and pictures on how to do it.

I've been checking out instructions and pictures on sites like those but I would still prefer to bring it to a professional to get it done the first
time at least. If anyone knows of a shop in Minnesota that knows how to string and tune an oud I'd appreciate it if you could post some contact
information for them.

I think you might have a hard time finding a store that would be able to do it... but if you took pictures and stuff from the websites into you local
guitar shop and had the guitar tech help you with it you might have some success... Especially if this is your first time dealing with a stringed
instrument...
The stuff on Oudcafe is what I used to learn how to attach the strings.
For new strings, I would check with Jameel at Khalaf oud - he'll be able to set you up with a good set...
