new to the Oud

Hey guys, Glad I ran across this site, it seems to be the place for all things Oud. I picked up my first Oud about 2 months ago, my parents own a music store and happened to take one in on trade, knowing my fascination with acoustic middle eastern music ( among other things) she called me and asked if i would be interested in it, oddly enough i had been looking at Ouds online for 2 weeks before hand. The Oud is a Sadattin Sandi the model number is MUA-30. it seems to be a very nice instrument and is of a much higher calibre than my playing :). I intended to get an Arabic Oud as i really like the sound of a good Arabic Oud solo, but for the price I got this one for I will happily make due.

I am as basic as basic can get, I cannot read print music and have just been learning parts of songs by ear. Is anyone aware of any other Oud players in the central california area? i would love to meet someone and possibly take lessons. anyway, thanks for having such an awesome site guys, take care!!

Hi Jay, welcome to the site and to the oud!
I am quite new myself (I play oud since 2 years) and I am going to istanbul on easter time to get a new oud.
Could you tell me how much did you pay for your Sandi oud?
Do you know with which woods it's built (fingerboard, soundboard, pegs..)?
Thank you in advance and good luck with your new oud!
Daniele

Spyros, I am in Escalon which is near modesto and stockton

Daniele, Since my oud came from my parents music store, i got a very good deal on it. as far as i can tell this model runs just over $1,000 heres the only US supplier ive found http://larkinthemorning.com , they call it the "artist oud" or "oud012", all of the construction information is there, or you can look here http://www.cankayamuzikevi.com go to catalogue and look at model MUA-30. Mine has one blemish from bieng bumped into something and 2 small scratches in the finish on the back but nothing that effects playability.

thanks guys!

Meet

Jaylon,

You are about one hour and a half from my house. I'm in Clayton/Concord. I may also know a teacher closer to your area.
Send me an e-mail or U2U and we maybe we can meet soon
